TRADING THEORY---When Should You Enter Into A Trade ?

in Blog, Bonds, commodities, currencies, futures trading, Mike Seery

When Should You Enter Into A Trade ? I have been asked this question many times throughout my career and my opinion is simply to buy on a 20-25 day high breakout in price on a closing basis only or sell on a 20-25 day low breakout to the downside also on a closing basis. Many times the price will break the 25 day high and sell off later in the day only to have your trade be negative very quickly.

Silver Futures---Silver futures in the March contract are trading higher for the 3rd consecutive session up another 7 cents at 17.24 an ounce as I will be recommending a bullish position if prices break 17.41 while then placing the stop loss under the 2 week low standing at 16.87 risking around $2,700 per large contract or $600 per mini contract plus slippage and commission.

Cotton Futures--- Cotton futures in the March contract are slightly higher trading up 16 points at 68.81 as I'm currently sitting on the sidelines waiting for a breakout to occur which could happen in today's trade if prices break 69.67 I will then be recommending a bullish position while placing the stop loss at the 2 week low which stands at 68.34 as the risk on the trade would be around $700 plus slippage and commission.

My Consolidation Theory--Look At Cotton

in Blog, Bonds, commodities, currencies, futures trading, Mike Seery

There are different theories about how long does a meaningful consolidation has to last before you enter a trade ? In my opinion I always want to see a consolidation that lasts at least 8 or more weeks before I would consider entering.

TRADING THEORY---Do You Trade With The Trend ?

in Blog, Bonds, commodities, currencies, futures trading, Mike Seery

TRADING THEORY---Trade with the short term trend, as the saying goes in futures trading the trend is your friend but sometimes you will be in a market that is trending higher and then has a false breakout to the upside and then suddenly sells off causing you a 2% loss on your equity and you say to yourself that was a bad trade and should I do something different on my next trade.
