What Is Chart Structure ?--Look At Wheat Chart

in Blog, Bonds, commodities, currencies, futures trading, Mike Seery

What Is Chart Structure & Why Is It Important ? I define chart structure as a slow grinding up or down trend with low volatility and no chart gaps. Many of the great trends that develop have very good chart structure with many low percentage daily moves over a course of at least 4 weeks thus allowing you to enter a market allowing you to place a stop loss relatively close due to small moves thus reducing risk.

U.S Dollar Hits A 6 Week Low

in Blog, Bonds, commodities, currencies, futures trading, Mike Seery

Dollar Index Futures--- The U.S dollar in the December contract settled last Friday at 93.57 while currently trading at 92.92 lower for the 2nd consecutive session hitting a 6 week low as I'm looking at a possible short position, however the chart structure is poor at the present time as the 10 day high stands at 94.54 as the risk is around $1,600 which is too much for this currency at this time in my opinion.

Are Moving Averages Important ?

in Blog, Bonds, commodities, currencies, futures trading, Mike Seery

How Can You Use Moving Averages To Your Advantage? A simple moving average is calculated by adding the closing price of a commodity such as crude oil for a number of time periods and then dividing this total by the number of time periods.

Short-term averages respond quickly to changes in the price of the underlying commodity, while long-term averages are slower to react.

TRADING THEORY ----What Is The RSI Oscillator ?

in Blog, Bonds, commodities, currencies, futures trading, Mike Seery

TRADING THEORY ----What Is The RSI Oscillator ? ---The RSI oscillator ranges from 0 to 100 and when a commodity is deemed to be at overbought levels when the RSI approaches the 70 level and beyond meaning if the oscillator has an overbought condition of 92 that is higher and even more of an overbought condition then the 70 level and could mean that its getting overvalued and is a good candidate for a short term pullback.

Mexican Peso Futures---The Mexican Peso in the December contract has finally shown some volatility to the downside currently trading lower by 30 points at 5161 near a 2 week low as I think now prices will retest the October 27th low of 5127 & if that level is broken I will be recommending to add another short position

TRADING THEORY---When Should You Enter Into A Trade ?

in Blog, Bonds, commodities, currencies, futures trading, Mike Seery

When Should You Enter Into A Trade ? I have been asked this question many times throughout my career and my opinion is simply to buy on a 20-25 day high breakout in price on a closing basis only or sell on a 20-25 day low breakout to the downside also on a closing basis. Many times the price will break the 25 day high and sell off later in the day only to have your trade be negative very quickly.
